Ferguson Cricket Club Minutes Book – 1920 – 1949 (PDF – 15.05Mb)
This minute book is foolscap in size with a hard black cover and numbered, lined pages inside. It covers the activities of the Ferguson Cricket Club between the 2020-21 season up to 1949.
The following pages are missing from this book: pages 38-39, pages 64-65, pages 92-95. They were not in the book when received and are likely to have been torn out when the book was being used in the early part of the 20th Century, for example as note paper. The missing pages were likely blank and don’t affect the flow of the document.
This is a wonderful snapshot of the residents of Ferguson and their sporting activity over a period of 30 years when settlement at Ferguson had commenced about 70 years earlier in the 1850s. As would be expected, there are a large number of members from the Gardiner, Gibbs, Flynn and Fowler families but there are others recorded for shorter periods of time.
Different residents held the position of Secretary over the years with the handwriting changing over time. There are also a couple of dozen purchase receipts slipped inside the book. The original book is very fragile.
Ferguson Tennis Club Minutes Book – 1939 – 1943 (PDF – 1.43Mb)
These Ferguson Tennis Club minutes were recorded by Enid Hall (nee Fowler) between 1939 and 1943.
The Ferguson tennis courts were on the opposite side of the road to where the Ferguson Hall stands today. They declined in use throughout the 1950s and were derelict by the 1960s. Their former location is now private farmland.
